DSA trader traceability
Marketplaces must verify and display who the seller is.
Every marketplace seller has been through a know-your-trader check since February 2024, and buyer-facing seller details appear on listings. No app is needed; the obligation sits with the marketplace and the seller supplies documents.
- Legal basis
- Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 (Digital Services Act), Art. 30 and 31
- Who it binds
- Online marketplaces, which must collect and verify name, address, bank account, trade-register number and a self-certification from every trader before letting them sell, and must show traders' details to buyers. For a shop this applies when it sells on Etsy, Amazon, eBay or any other marketplace.
- Who is exempt
- A shop's own storefront is not a marketplace; the shop's own duties there come from the Impressum and consumer-rights rules instead.
- Penalty
- Fines on the marketplace up to 6% of worldwide turnover; for the trader the consequence is suspension until the details are verified.
